The Jewish community in India is one of many groups who have come from outside the country’s modern borders and made India their home. Indian Jews have also done a wonderful job of blending in with the culture of the region. There are roughly 6,000 Jews in India, and it has taken time for the Jewish Indian identity to fully develop. Today this modest, tight-knit group works tirelessly to protect the last traces of Jewish heritage in the country. Indian Jews have made valuable contributions to the country and are actively involved in its continued development, notes Emmanuil Grinshpun.
